Add a delicious and savory taste to any dish with homemade garlic salt! A simple, quick, and easy recipe to make with only two required ingredients.

A wooden spoon filled with garlic powder

You’re in the kitchen halfway through making your favorite dinner recipe, only to realize you’re out of garlic salt. What’s a person to do?! Do you hop in your car and run to the store? Omit it and sacrifice that yummy garlic taste? Throw in table salt and hope for the best?

None of the above, because you can easily make your own!

Making homemade garlic salt

To make your own, you will simply need your favorite brand of garlic powder and a bit of table salt. In this recipe we’ll use a 3:1 salt to garlic ratio which amounts to 1 tablespoon of salt and 1 teaspoon of garlic.

Simply combine the salt and garlic powder, and just store it in a cool, dry place until you’re ready to use it!

You can easily double, triple, or quadruple the recipe if you’d like to fill a larger container. As long as that 3:1 ratio is maintained, the flavor will be good to go!

Ways to use garlic salt

Garlic salt can be used on many of your favorite dishes, though it’s not a direct substitute for standalone garlic or salt. I recommend adding it to dishes that call for a dash of salt and can benefit from the added flavor of the garlic.

Some great options include lightly sprinkled on salads, added to cooked pasta or pasta sauce, rice dishes, vegetable dishes, guacamole, etc.

Where flavor is required, garlic salt is often a great addition. Try it in Hidden Spinach Guacamole, Roasted Eggplant, or Buffalo Cauliflower!
