No meal is complete without a side of warm, buttery vegan garlic bread—and this one does not disappoint! Crispy on the edges, soft in the center, and loaded with garlicky, herby goodness, it’s the kind of side that steals the show. Bonus: it’s ridiculously easy to make (just 10 minutes of prep!).

No One Will Know It’s Vegan

If there’s one side dish that makes any meal better, it’s garlic bread. That crispy golden crust, the melty, buttery goodness, the punch of garlic and herbs—what’s not to love?

But this isn’t your average spread-and-bake situation. This vegan garlic bread takes things up a notch by cutting the loaf into a fan shape, letting the garlicky mixture seep into every nook and cranny.

The result? A perfectly crunchy-on-the-outside, soft-on-the-inside, flavor-packed bite (no dry spots, no skimping on the garlic—just next-level deliciousness). And with just 20 minutes in the oven, it’s a no-brainer for any meal!

Grab These Ingredients

You only need a handful of ingredients to make your own vegan garlic bread! Jump down to the recipe card for exact measurements (this is just an overview!).

  • Sourdough Bread: Start with a crusty sourdough loaf—it’s the perfect balance of chewy and crisp. Not a sourdough fan? Swap in ciabatta, a baguette, or your favorite hearty bread.
  • Butter: Next, you’ll need vegan butter or margarine to get that rich, golden finish. (For the best flavor, opt for a high-quality plant-based butter like Miyoko’s Creamery or Forager Project!)
  • Garlic: Obviously! Go big with 6 cloves of minced garlic (is there such a thing as too much?). Feeling fancy? Use our garlic confit or air-fried garlic.
  • Seasonings: This is where the magic happens. You’ll need onion powder, dried basil, parsley, oregano, and salt to round it out. Want some heat? A pinch of red pepper flakes never hurt anyone. (Or, level up your garlic bread by topping it with Gremolata after cooking!)

Vegan Butter Options

For vegan garlic bread, the butter substitute makes all the difference—you want something rich, creamy, and savory.

Plant-based butter is going to be your go-to here (think brands like Earth Balance, Miyoko’s, Forager’s Project, and Country Crock Plant Butter). Whichever one you go with, make sure to check for a “vegan” or “plant-based” label.

If you can’t find that, try coconut oil (melt it first!), or go Mediterranean-style with extra virgin olive oil (mix it with garlic and herbs for an easy, drool-worthy spread!).

  3. Melt the butter in the microwave, then stir in the remaining ingredients.
  4. Garnish the bread by spooning the butter mixture into the cracks.
  5. Bake the loaf (wrapped in foil) for 15 minutes, then unwrap the foil and bake for another 5 minutes.
