h=Here’s what you’ll need
Just a few ingredients combine to create a creamy smoothie that tastes like pie! This is just an overview; jump to the recipe card for full measurements!
- Banana: Freeze your banana slices ahead of time to make this lime smoothie cold and frosty.
- Yogurt: Plain Greek yogurt makes this smoothie rich and creamy. You could also add a dollop of cream cheese or cottage cheese for a more decadent cheesecake smoothie.
- Lime: You can use key or regular lime juice, but aim for fresh juice where possible. (Be sure to save a slice of lime for the garnish!)
- Sweetener: I love honey in this smoothie, but you could also use liquid sugar, agave, or maple syrup.
- Vanilla: Finish it with a dash of vanilla extract to bring that pie feeling!
key limes versus regular limes
Key limes are usually only available in the summer. They are smaller and sweeter than regular limes. You can also buy key lime juice in-store, which is perfect for this smoothie. Otherwise, regular limes work just fine; just add a little more honey.

the lime and the coconut
To make that festive rim from the photos, dip a cup in white chocolate and roll it in toasted coconut mixed with crushed graham crackers. You can also use coconut yogurt in place of Greek yogurt for more coconut flavor.

smoothie Variations
- A Lemonade Smoothie: This recipe also works great with fresh lemon juice and zest!
- Make Popsicles: In the mood for popsicles? Add a touch more honey, then freeze the mixture into homemade popsicles!
- Add Protein: You can boost the protein content by adding cottage cheese or one of your favorite vanilla protein powders.
- Nutritious Boosters: To add fiber and protein to this shake, you can add flax seeds, chia seeds, or hemp seeds.

Absolutely delicious!! Exactly like the pie!
This was sooo good! I used flax milk instead of yogurt and added frozen spinach/kale. Loved the flavor! All of my kids enjoyed it too. Thank you for my new favorite smoothie recipe!!!
I’m so happy to hear it, Jennifer! Enjoy! 😀
I tried this recipe, and I can’t handle the taste. I’ve never been a yogurt lover which I think is part of the problem, but I also think there is a bit too much lime in it. I think if I try this once again, I will try vanilla ice cream instead of the yogurt and use 1/8 of lime juice instead of 1/4.
This smoothie has become my favorite morning smoothie! I add a lot of spinach, and I use almond milk and dairy-free yogurt and it’s so delicious. Some mornings I have been throwing in some unflavored protein powder too. Thanks for this great recipe–I never would have thought to put citrus zest in a smoothie!
So happy to hear it, Hannah!! Enjoy! 😀
Excellent! & I threw in a little fresh parsley.-rebel that I am~
Love it!! Enjoy!
Your key lime pie smoothie sounds delicious but with almost 10 teaspoons of sugar, I think I’ll have to pass on this recipe.
This is so good! I almost regret trying it because now I crave it all the time. 🍋🟩
You just made my day, enjoy!
