These passion fruit popsicles are a tasty tropical treat that you’ll be enjoying all summer! They are so easy to make and all you need is a bowl and popsicle molds!

Passion fruit is one of my favorite fruits (and soon will be yours)! There is something so enamoring about it. Wrinkly and strange looking but then you crack it open to find this bright yellow filling. How fun and mysterious is that?!
If you have never had nutritious passion fruit, it can be hard to explain the taste. They are sweet and tart (totally logical) with large black seeds. The most commonly known purple ones originate from South America and therefore can be hard to find in North America, unless you are lucky enough to live in California or Hawaii. Thankfully, many retailers now sell the puree frozen, a select few sell the fruit, and you can easily find fresh passion fruit online (which is what I did!)
Enough about passion fruit. Ok, these popsicles! Take that amazing fruit I just told you all about and mix it with sugar, water, and lime juice. Pour into molds and have delicious popsicles to enjoy all summer (they keep for 3 months in the freezer, so yes – all summer)!
Ingredients in Passion Fruit Popsicles
With only 4 ingredients needed, these tropical popsicles are an extremely delicious and simple dessert. Just gather your ingredients and “Bend and Snap”! Not really, but I think the popsicle equivalent is Mix and Pour!
- Water: Water makes up 60% of your body and now 60.5% from eating this popsicle.
- Sugar: While passion fruit is pretty sweet, it is also tart so a little sugar is needed to help balance that tang.
- Passion Fruit Puree: You can make your own passion fruit puree, or find it in the freezer section of stores like Target and Whole Foods! But, if using frozen, be sure to thaw it before using it to make these popsicles.
- Lime Juice: Ok, I know I said passion fruit is tart, but lime juice is like vanilla for baking. It enhances the natural flavor of passion fruit while only adding a hint of lime flavor.
- Passion Fruit Pulp (optional): I like to add some of the actual passion fruit pulp, with the seeds, to these popsicles. Not for more passion fruit flavor (these already have tons of that), but for looks because yes, I like things that look fun and delicious.
Ingredient tip
When picking out passion fruit that is ripe, look for the wrinkly ones that are darker in color. When the skin is wrinkly, that means the skin has weakened because all of its energy is going to ripe, sweet inside.
How to make Passion Fruit Popsicles
This process is so quick and easy! I did get a little fancy by making my own passion fruit puree but you can simply use store bought that is usually found in cubes in the freezer section.
Step 1: Dissolve Sugar
Heat 1 cup of water in the microwave until warm, then stir in the sugar until dissolved. This “simple syrup” is going to give these popsicles the perfect bitable texture while also adding some much needed sweetness.
Step 2: Mix
In a spouted bowl, combine sugar water with remaining 1 cup of water, passion fruit puree, and lime juice. If you are making your own puree, scoop out the filling from the passion fruits and add to a strainer that is situated over a spouted bowl. Use the back of a spoon to squish the juice through the strainer, separating the pulp and seeds from the juice. If using frozen puree, be sure to thaw it before making these.
Step 3: Assemble
If desired, spoon some of the pulp from a fresh passion fruit into each popsicle mold (this is just so you can have some seeds in the pops for the aesthetic!) Pour the mixture into molds, leaving a little space at the top for them to expand. Insert sticks and freeze until hard (at least 4 hours).
Step 4: Serve
Run the mold under warm water for a few seconds to loosen them up, then remove from the mold.
Popsicle Variations
Want these creamy or more tropical? Try out these other yummy ways to mix up the popsicles.
- Tropical: To add even more fun flavor into these popsicles, try blending in mango or pineapple with the passion fruit puree to make tropical popsicles (or try any of these tropical fruits!)
- Creamy: To make this a passion fruit creamsicle, mix in 1/2 a cup of coconut milk before pouring the mixture into the molds.
- Spice It Up: Add a sprinkle of tajin onto the finished pops (like we do in these Mexican Paletas!)
- Make It A Cocktail: Use these tropical popsicles as a cocktail stirrer! They chill your drinks while also slowly adding flavor. Perfect for leveling up your summer parties!
