My creamy Marry Me Tofu Sauce is built from silken tofu and sun-dried, all blended smooth and warmed on the stovetop in under 15 minutes. It’s completely vegan, naturally dairy-free, and the kind of sauce that makes people ask what’s in it before they’ve finished the bowl.

Hot take: silken tofu makes for a better creamy sauce than heavy cream. It has a neutral flavor that disappears behind the sun-dried tomatoes and spices, a silky texture that coats evenly without feeling heavy, and enough protein to make this a meal rather than just a sauce. As a nutritionist, it’s the kind of swap I love!
If you’ve made my marry me chickpeas or marry me butter beans, this is the same Tuscan-inspired flavor profile in sauce form, ready to go over anything.

Key ingredients
- Silken tofu: Drain it well before blending to remove excess water that would dilute the flavor. This is what makes the sauce creamy without any dairy.
- Sun-dried tomatoes: Packed in oil for the best flavor and easiest blending.
- Nutritional yeast: Adds a savory, slightly cheesy flavor that replaces the parmesan that is typical in a traditional marry me sauce.
- Garlic: Three raw cloves blended directly into the sauce.
- Vegetable broth: Controls the consistency. Add gradually until the sauce reaches a pourable, coating consistency.
Silken, not firm
Firm tofu blended into a sauce produces a grainy texture that doesn’t fully smooth out even in a high-powered blender. Silken tofu blends completely smooth in about two minutes and has a neutral flavor that makes it the right base for a sauce.

Why silken tofu works as a cream substitute
From a food science standpoint, what makes a sauce feel creamy is the way it coats the palate, which comes from viscosity and protein content rather than fat alone. Silken tofu provides both. The nutritional yeast and sun-dried tomatoes supply the savory depth that fat would normally carry, which is why the sauce tastes richer than its ingredient list suggests!

Ways to serve marry me tofu sauce
Over pasta: Toss with cooked spaghetti, linguine, or penne. Reserve a splash of pasta water to help the sauce cling to the noodles. My marry me orzo is the dump and bake version if you want the same flavor with even less effort.
With crispy tofu: Press, cube, and air fry extra-firm tofu at 400°F for 15 minutes until golden, then spoon the sauce generously over the top. My crispy air fryer tofu follows the exact method.
Over roasted vegetables: Spoon over roasted cauliflower, broccoli, or eggplant for a complete vegetable dish that feels substantial.
As a grain bowl sauce: Drizzle over farro, quinoa, or rice with whatever vegetables you have on hand.
