This one didn’t take long to nail, but I’ve made it often enough on weeknights that it barely counts as cooking at this point. What sets it apart from a regular flatbread pizza is the double bake. Pre-toasting the naan by itself, before any toppings go on, is what keeps the crust sturdy enough to hold sauce and cheese without turning soft in the middle. Skip that step, like a lot of naan pizza recipes do, and you end up with a soggy center no matter how hot your oven runs.

Imagine your favorite vegetarian pizza flatbread recipes…but quicker and easier and better.

That’s exactly what naan pizza is! It’s delicious cheesiness atop fluffy naan made complete with whatever toppings your heart desires.

And by prebaking the naan, we ensure this pizza crust is crispy and cooked to perfection. Plus, the personal-sized portions make it perfect for DIY pizza night!

Why You’ll Love this Naan Bread Pizza Recipe

I’ve made this often enough on busy nights that I no longer think of it as a recipe, more like a reflex.

  • Ready in 15 minutes start to finish, faster than most delivery
  • Prebaking the naan first is what keeps the crust from turning flimsy under the toppings
  • Personal-sized portions mean everyone gets to build their own pizza exactly how they want it

Naan Bread Pizza Ingredients

  • Naan: You can make your very own naan bread or use store-bought.
  • The Toppings: I keep it simple with just pizza sauce, mozzarella, and shredded parmesan (or cheddar).
Three pieces of naan bread, a bowl of tomato sauce, shredded mozzarella cheese, and shredded cheddar cheese arranged on a dark surface. Labels identify each ingredient.
Prebaking will toast up our naan so that it can support our pizza toppings without going all flimsy.

How to Make Naan Pizza

  1. Prebake the naan. Place naan directly on the oven racks at 450°F and bake for 2 minutes, flip, then bake for another 2 minutes.
  2. Add the toppings. Spread sauce over each naan, then layer on the mozzarella and cheddar or parmesan.
  3. Bake again. Return the naan to the oven and bake until the cheese melts and the crust turns golden, about 4 to 5 minutes.
  4. Rest and slice. Let the pizzas cool slightly before cutting into slices.
  5. Finish and serve. Top with fresh basil and a pinch of crushed red pepper.

Naan Pizza Recipe Toppings

Now for the fun part… the naan pizza topping ideas! Depending on your mood and what your kitchen has in stock, use these combos as your guides for creating the best naan pizzas around. Do-it-yourself pizza topping bar, anyone?!

Mediterranean
Add feta cheese, sun dried tomatoes, and kalamata olives for a Mediterranean pizza.

Mexican
Go with a Mexican style pizza by adding a Mexican cheese blend, diced tomatoes, and diced jalapeños!

Caprese
Go the classic Caprese route by adding pesto and tomatoes. You could also skip the shredded mozzarella and use fresh slices instead!

Three Cheese
In the mood for extra cheese? Create a three cheese pizza by layering on the mozzarella, cheddar, and a third cheese of your choice. Pepperjack, parmesan, romano, or asiago make great options!

Vegetarian Pepperoni
Stick with classic cheese and pepperoni with this delicious seitan pepperoni topping. It’s to die for!

How to Store Naan Flatbread Pizza

Leftover naan pizza keeps in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days.

Skip the microwave when reheating. It softens the crust instead of crisping it. The oven or air fryer brings the crust back to its original crunch in just a few minutes.

This pizza is best assembled and eaten right away rather than made ahead, since the naan turns soggy the longer it sits under the sauce and cheese. If you want to get ahead of dinner, keep the naan unassembled in the freezer and add the sauce and cheese right before baking instead.

Notes

Storage: You can store any leftover pizza in the fridge in an air tight container for up to 4 days. To reheat it, pop it in the oven or air fryer to make it crispy again.
Can I make it in advance? This pizza is best made and eaten right away. The best part is the crispy naan bread and if this is made in advance, it will get soggy.
Using vegetables: I don’t recommend using fresh or raw vegetables because there isn’t a long enough bake time to cook them. Stick to using only roasted or pre-cooked vegetables.
