Let’s Talk Ingredients

We’re keeping it simple with just a handful of kitchen staples to bring this cranberry orange oatmeal to life! Jump to the recipe card for exact measurements (this is just an overview).

  • Orange Juice: The base of all that citrusy goodness! Freshly squeezed is best here, but store-bought juice works in a pinch.
  • Oats: We’re using steel cut oats for a heartier, chewier texture (don’t worry—they’re still naturally gluten-free!).
  • Cranberry Sauce: Add sweet and tart flavors with a few spoonfuls of cranberry sauce. (Here’s my homemade cranberry sauce recipe!)
  • Sliced Almonds: Last but not least, top the oats with sliced almonds for extra flavor and crunch!

What About Rolled Oats?

When making oatmeal, I definitely recommend using steel cut oats. Their hearty, chewy texture gives the oatmeal a rich, satisfying consistency that holds up well when cooked.

That said, you can swap in rolled or instant oats if that’s what you have on hand—just know that the final result will be much softer and a bit mushier.

Making This Oatmeal Is A Cinch

If you’ve ever made oats on the stove, this recipe is no different—the whole process will take about 30 minutes! (Jump to the recipe card for the full printable instructions.)

  1. Cook the oats in a medium saucepan for 25 to 30 minutes until tender.
  2. Serve your oatmeal topped with cranberry sauce and sliced almonds.

Keep the heat on low and let the oats gently simmer. (Rushing the process with high heat can lead to uneven cooking and a gummy texture.)

Let the oatmeal sit for 5 minutes before garnishing and serving to help it thicken up!
