Did you know that cherries have as much potassium as bananas with fewer calories and more fiber?
Cherries are either sweet or tart. Bing cherries are the sweet variety most of us are accustomed to, but there are numerous others that provide various levels of sweetness or tartness. Look for shiny skins and stems still attached. Pick the firm ones and avoid those that are mushy or have brown spots. Taste before you buy if possible!
Cherries will keep well for at least a week in the fridge. They freeze well too. Rinse, pat dry, and freeze them in airtight plastic bags.
