Church Bells Ring
Here’s the thing – I haven’t been to all that many weddings. Being from a small family and virtually unwed friends group, I’ve never really experienced “wedding season”
But in May my best friends married each other and I, being the maid-of-honor and resident “sisterwife“, had the absolute best weekend (despite feeling completely out of my league for 90% of the time).
They rented a property in the Texas Hill Country where all the guests stayed for the weekend, and everyone had their own little job. My mom decorated the cake. The bride did all of our hair. I collected assorted glass decor from Goodwill for months, and sister arranged it all into these gorgeous centerpieces. It was Pinterest perfection. They even went TikTok viral!
The Dog Days of Summer Are Here
After wedding weekend the bride and groom went for their honeymoon, which left me in charge of dog duty! I lived with Blaze, the 1 year old golden retriever, from puppyhood until he was 6 months old, so Aunt Sarah was ready to make herself the cool aunt. It’s safe to say I succeeded.
After he recovered from the wild weekend, we made a real Texas dog out of him. So two humans and one pup squeezed onto a single person kayak and took on Paradise Canyon and Garner State Park. It was a Texas daydream.
Hiking on the Homefront
Despite falling more in love with Texas every time I visit, I’m really catching feelings for Colorado. We’ve been hiking most weekends and I’m constantly amazed at the sights and scenery (and food spots near the trailheads 😛). A few of my favorites this month have been:
- Chavez and Beaver Brook Trail Loop
- Windy Saddle Lookout Mountain Trail
- Button Rock Dam
- The Incline Trail
In the Headquarters
Somewhere in all of that I did spend some time indoors. Sister and I have continued our home decor, Goodwill-style. One of my favorite new additions has been this basket-packed tv stand. I just loved how they’re all mismatched but somehow still go together (plus they give us loads of storage space for cluttery items, like our art supplies).
And our favorite new addition, this lightbox coffee table! It goes for $350 new, but we snagged it for $15.
And I’d be remiss without giving you a quick peek at the recipes to come! All of this traveling and outdoor time has supercharged my excitement for exploring new recipes. In fact, we’re doing a Reader Recipes Week where I’ll be cooking up a few of YOUR favorite recipes. I’m still accepting submissions here!
And that’s all the gab for May. Wishing you all the best from my kitchen to yours. Happy summertime!
