New house, who dis?

After a year of living in the high rises of downtown Denver, sister and I have moved! Rent increases and change in building management had us craving a place of our own, so we scoured the listings until we landed on our new home – an 1890 house rental in the cozy neighborhood of Highlands!

It has a yard for Rhubarb to get her farmdog energy out, an extra bedroom for our parents during their many ski trips, and so much character!

Empty room with polished wooden floors, exposed brick accent wall, a white door, two windows with blinds, and recessed ceiling lightsโ€”a perfect setting for a Lets Gab session in November 2021.
Bright living room with hardwood floors, a sectional sofa, armchairs, and a coffee table. A brick accent wall adds character alongside lush plants and a small desk in the cornerโ€”perfect for a cozy Lets Gab session this November 2021.

The living area is my absolute favorite part of the house, with high ceilings and exposed brick that makes me feel like I’m living in an episode of New Girl.

The dining room, reminiscent of November 2021 trends, features a long table surrounded by chairs in various colors on a wooden floor. A decorative light fixture brightens the space, while blinds cover the window. A doorway leads to an adjacent room, perfect for a Lets Gab session.
The dining room, set for six, invites conversation under a pendant light that softly illuminates the wooden table. Surrounded by lush plants and captivating wall art, this space encourages guests to gather and gab as sunlight in November 2021 dances across the hardwood floor.

And while the bedrooms are a bit smaller than in our last place, I’ve taken the opportunity to make it feel like the coziest of nooks, complete with the princess canopy!

Small empty room with light hardwood flooring, gray walls, and a single window with blinds. The open door reveals a ceiling light fixture, inviting the soft November 2021 sunlight to fill the space like a quiet whisper from a Lets Gab session.
Bedroom with a bed featuring a canopy, a desk at the foot, and shelves with plants and decor. The walls are light gray, and the floor is wooden with a round woven rugโ€”a cozy retreat that feels just like a Lets Gab conversation in November 2021.

Despite feeling bright and airy, there’s really no place in the house to shoot photos with natural light, which is how all of the photos on this site are taken. So Live Eat Learn photography is getting leveled up – we’re moving to studio light! Like…when I stop being so intimidated with this lighting setup and actually figure out how to use it.

The cozy room, reminiscent of November 2021 warmth, features brick walls and a white table adorned with plates and baskets. An overhead light adds to the ambiance, casting a gentle glow near a white cabinet. To the left, a standing light invites you to gather and lets gab as blinds partially veil the window.

Between sister and my tight schedules, we couldn’t have got it all done without the help of our ever generous dad, who flew into town to help us move boxes, carry furniture, and figure out just which of the 3 million anchors at Home Depot we needed. Rhubarb repaid him in ample kisses.

In November 2021, a person in a red jacket crouches in an aisle of a hardware store, eyeing a wall display of various packaged tools and accessories. Lets gab about finding the perfect equipment for your next project!.
In the cozy room, a person sits on the hardwood floor, stretching with legs apart as their black and white dog watches. November 2021s Lets Gab episode plays softly on the TV. The scene is framed by lush plants and a round table adorned with a basket underneath.

And because I’m an impatient person to my core, I set the ambitious goal of having our housewarming party exactly one week after moving in.

The theme? Dress as your Spotify top artist. Eminem, Ed Sheeran, and Olivia Rodrigo were in attendance (as was Mayday Parade, my high school guilty pleasure who have somehow remained on the top of my charts since).

A week later we hosted Friendsgiving for all the transplants who couldn’t make it home this year. Needless to say, I don’t need another bite of food or sip of alcohol at least until our inevitable Ugly Christmas Sweater Party.

Our favorite fall things

In the margins of time not spent moving, we managed to squeeze in a few of our favorite fall things! Like…

Hiking (and ice fishing) at the Saint Mary’s Glacier (whether cold or warm, we never really know what to expect).

And exploring some new hikes around Lyons, along with some old favorites at the Boulder Flatirons!

And letting our inner Nittany Lions shine at the Penn State bar, Larimer Beer Hall. Rhubarb isn’t so sure about that lion though.

And obsessively going to the Cherry Creek Reservoir dog park, 107 acres of pure Rhubarb happiness.

And finishing hikes with puppuccinos.

And trying out all the eateries (and drinkeries) in our new neighborhood, to include Uncle Ramen, Postino LoHi, Zuni Street Brewing, bartaco, and My Neighbor Felix!

November marks one year since moving to Denver, but it looks a little different now. A Rhubarb by my side, house to call home, and good friends to feed.

I hope your November was cozy and delicious and filled with time spent by your favorite people ๐Ÿ’›

Your home is lovely! So bright and comfy! The lighting set up for your food photos will work fine. The white wall can be an additional โ€˜large softboxโ€™. If you need to spread more light around direct the lights to bounce off it.
Looking forward to reading more of your adventures in your new neighborhood.

That’s such a great idea, I didn’t think of using that wall for bouncing light! Thanks so much, Di!
