Flax Egg: In a microwave-safe mug, combine 1 tsp ground flax seed and 2 tsp water. Stir and let sit for 2 to 3 minutes to thicken.
Mash Beans: Add ⅓ cup black beans (drained) directly to the mug and mash with a fork until mostly smooth. Some small bits are fine.
Mix Batter: Add 2 Tbsp brown sugar, 1 Tbsp cocoa powder, 1 Tbsp oil or melted butter, 1 Tbsp yogurt or sour cream, 1 Tbsp milk, ¼ tsp cornstarch, ¼ tsp baking powder, and 1 pinch of salt. Stir until fully combined and smooth.
Add Chocolate Chips: Fold in 2 Tbsp chocolate chips.
Microwave: Microwave on 100% power for about 4 to 4½ minutes, until set in the center (a toothpick inserted should come out mostly clean with a few moist crumbs).
Serve: Let sit for a few minutes before eating. The cake will continue to set as it cools.

Notes
Mug size does not significantly affect cook time. Both a standard mug and a larger mug produced similar results. For best texture when eating immediately, cook for about 4½ minutes. If you plan to store it and eat later, cook for closer to 4 minutes, as it will continue to firm up and can become slightly drier over time.Storage: Cover loosely with plastic wrap or a small plate and store at room temperature for up to a day, or in the fridge for up to two days. The texture firms up further as it cools, which is actually pretty good cold straight from the fridge. If reheating, microwave for 20 to 30 seconds. All tests were done at 100% microwave power.
